SHEEP SHEARING DAY AT THE PETALUMA ADOBE, APRIL 8, 201704/08/2017
Children love sheep, and the early rain did not deter families from coming to the Adobe to watch John Sanchez, our expert shearer, practice his craft on our three sheep. Over more than twenty years John has sheared thousands of sheep. To keep the sheep docile during shearing he makes sure that they can’t plant their feet throughout the procedure. Crystal Battles, the park ranger, collected the wool, passed out a few samples, and brought it to tables where volunteers carded it and demonstrated how to spin yarn using a drop spindle.
