“A Saint’s Sins”, NY Times Opinion piece 8/16/2020

Black Lives Matter protests led to removal of Confederate icons from their pedestals. Reconsideration of a different history prompted activists to tear down statues of Junipero Serra and demand reconsideration of the harsh treatment of Native Americans in California missions. This article presents a nuanced picture of that history and includes commentary from Vincent Medina, well known to our docents for his lectures and tours at Mission Dolores in San Francisco.
