A Bug’s Day at the Barracks

SPParks will host “A Bug’s Day at the Barracks” with six year old author Ryeson Bull and his mother and coauthor, Shana Bull. They are the creators of the children’s book series, Randall the Blue Spider & Friends, and will read Randall the Blue Spider Tries Honey Cakes, the third book in the series. There will also be a Bug Scavenger Hunt in the Barracks courtyard, with prizes.  The event is free for kids of all ages and parents (and no, you don’t have to like spiders to come).

The story line: Randall’s friend Camilla the Bee brought honey cakes for her friends to try at school, but Randall doesn’t want to eat one because he is afraid he won’t like it. Join Randall & friends as they discover new foods, and solve problems with love, kindness and respect.  This picture book teaches kids that trying new things isn’t as yucky as they sometimes think – in fact, it can be delicious and fun.

By the time Ryeson Bull was age two he had memorized Goodnight Moon. At two and a half he dictated Randall the Blue Spider Goes Surfing to his mother in a hospital parking lot in Long Beach, with a view of the surfing scene in the distance. Ryeson was born with cystic fibrosis, a hereditary disease that impacts the lungs and digestive system.  The ocean has always been a special place for his family because salt air is good for his lungs.

Shana Bull is a children’s book author, digital marketer, educator and freelance writer. Learn more about the authors at RandalltheBlueSpider.com
