In this lecture Dr. Meyerhof will discuss General Vallejo’s attempt to found Mission Santa Rosa in 1839. Based on previously ignored and untranslated correspondence from 1839, he will show that even after the “Mission period” as we know it, the idea of establishing a new mission in Santa Rosa was still being considered.
Dr. Meyerhof is an independent historian and board member of the Sonoma Valley Historical Society. He has delved deeply into the history of Sonoma and the Mission and has presented those findings at previous lectures.
This lecture will be in the Chapel of Mission San Francisco Solano, 114 East Spain Street, Sonoma. Doors open at 6:30pm. Admission at the door is $10 for the general public, $5 for SPParks members and no charge for Docents and Park Staff.
